We’ve been involved with consulting the self-published author for many years beginning in 1994. I recall being asked (at a moment’s notice), to sit on a discussion board at a writers’ conference with several large publishers. My comments in a nutshell were, “When you’ve been rejected and rejected and rejected and you want it published anyway… come see us.” That was it! I sat down as the audience roared with laughter.
Later that evening, a representative of one of these larger companies thanked me and agreed that there was a need for what we were doing because she knew almost all of the submissions were not going to get published.
